Scope of Work
Researcher
Background
|
Since January 2013, Mercy Corps Indonesia has been
implementing a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) /Resilience programme in DKI
Jakarta and West Java. The overall objective of the programme is to improve
resilience of urban and peri-urban populations vulnerable to hazards through
strengthening the capacity of local communities, local government, and
private sector actors. The DRIVE-C Programme has been working with 9
communities in the textile/garment industry areas within Jakarta, Tangerang
City, Bandung Regency and West Bandung Regency. From March to April 2014, the
DRIVE-C Programme facilitated a community-based Vulnerability and Capacity
Assessment (VCA) in those four areas. The assessment found that all of the
surface water sources such as river, shallow wells and ponds had contamination
from industrial wastewater.

Objectives
of The research
|
The DRIVE-C Programme would like to undertake research on waste management, water quality and
impact of pollution at the
community level from chemicals originating from textile industries. The
research will present recommendations to address the water quality challenges
in Bandung Regency. The research will focus on a desk review supported by a
number of community and stakeholder interviews in the target communities and
beyond.
The
research will be carried out individuals or consultancy firm, the team will
consist of a principal researcher and researcher. The principal researcher will
responsible to develop research design
and plan, to analyze available data, to draft and
finalize the report. The researcher will
responsible to gather and
analyse data from relevant stakeholders
(such as government agencies).
Both principal researcher and researcher will conduct interviews with community members and other key informants.

Qualification

Minimum
Qualifications
Researcher must have the following general qualifications:

Technical expertise in
environmental science, urban planning, public policy natural resource (water)
management, applied chemistry and / or public health.
·
Demonstrated skills in sound
research design, use of various research methodologies and survey tools for
data collection and analysis.
Specific
Qualifications of
Researcher:
·
Minimum of 8 years relevant experience, with at least 3 years relevant
experience in technical research, including on environmental issue, waste
management and public health issues.
·
Previous experience working on waste management, water pollution and or
public health in Bandung or West Java is desirable.
·
Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia is mandatory.
·
Fluency in English is a must and
Bahasa Indonesia is desirable.
